How Small Daily Movements Can Prevent Chronic Pain

Episode Notes:

In this episode, Dr. Hunter Schultz of 920 Chiropractic Health & Injury Care in Green Bay breaks down why chronic pain rarely strikes without warning—and how the small movements you make (or skip) each day are often the deciding factor.

Dr. Schultz explains the gradual, quiet buildup that leads to debilitating pain, and why understanding this process is the first step toward preventing it.

Whether you’re currently pain-free or already noticing early warning signs, this episode will give you a fresh perspective on your daily routine and practical strategies to keep your body moving well for the long term.

Hey there, welcome back. I’m Doctor Hunter Schultz from nine twenty Chiropractic Health and Injury Care here in Green Bay, and today we’re talking about something that I think is going to change the way you look at your daily routine.

We’re talking about movement. Specifically, the small, simple movements you make — or maybe don’t make — every single day. And here’s why this matters. Chronic pain doesn’t usually show up out of nowhere. It builds. Slowly. Quietly. Until one day you wake up and your neck is stiff, your lower back aches, and you feel like your body is just… fighting you.

The good news? A lot of that is preventable. And it doesn’t require a gym membership or an hour-long workout. It really comes down to how you move through your day.

Now here’s the thing — our bodies are designed to move. Constantly. Not just during exercise, but all day long. When we sit still for long stretches of time, and let’s be honest, most of us are doing that a lot right now… our muscles get tight, our joints get stiff, and the tissues around our spine start to lose their flexibility. Over time, that adds up to real pain.

There’s a concept I talk about with my patients all the time, and it’s called positional stress. Every time you hold one position for too long — whether that’s sitting at a desk, looking down at your phone, or even sleeping in an awkward spot — you’re putting sustained stress on certain structures in your body. Your muscles, your joints, your discs. And they do not love that. They need variety. They need movement.

So let me break this down for you. The first thing I want you to think about is what I call a movement reset. Every thirty minutes or so, just get up. Stand up. Walk to the kitchen, walk down the hall, roll your shoulders back, take a few deep breaths. You don’t need to do anything fancy. You just need to break that cycle of stillness. Set a timer on your phone if you have to. Seriously — it works.

The second thing is about how you transition through positions. Think about how you get out of a chair, or how you reach for something on a high shelf. Are you doing it mindfully? Or are you just kind of… flopping and twisting and hoping for the best? Slow, intentional movements protect your spine. Jerky, rushed movements — those are where little injuries sneak in. And those little injuries are often what turn into big chronic pain problems down the road.

The third thing I want to mention is the power of gentle stretching throughout the day. Not a full stretching routine necessarily, just a few targeted moves. A chin tuck to counteract that forward head posture from your screen. A chest opener to undo all that rounding in your upper back. A gentle hip flexor stretch if you’re sitting a lot. These take about sixty seconds each. That’s it. And they make a real difference in how your body feels at the end of the day.

Now here’s what I want you to start doing today. Pick one of those three things. Just one. Set a timer every thirty minutes, or slow down how you move through transitions, or add one quick stretch when you make your morning coffee. Start small. Build the habit. Because consistency with small things will always beat perfection with big things.

And if you’re already dealing with pain — neck pain, back pain, headaches, that kind of thing — I want you to come in and see us. Because sometimes the body needs a little help getting reset before it can respond well to these daily habits. That’s exactly what we’re here for at nine twenty Chiropractic.

We can take a look at what’s going on, figure out where the restrictions are, and build a plan that actually fits your life. No pressure, no complicated program. Just honest care.
